About Us

Adam Spencer

One of Adam's first star moments was on the British television show 'Strictly Dance Fever' – where he was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious 'London Studio Center' where he gained his honours degree in Theater Dance. After touring with the studio's jazz company in the UK and working for Disney's 'High School Musical' in Europe, he continued to train in ballroom dancing. Adam was on the 'Encore' Latin formation team and placed first at Blackpool at Nationals. The team then went on to compete at the world championships in Germany that same year. His resume also includes assistant choreographer for Dreamworks, and dance captain for both Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Carnival Cruise Lines.

With Adam's breadth of skill and multidisciplinary approach to ballroom dance, he has an unique perspective on how to teach and make you the best dancer you can be. 

Naomi Turner and Studio 878

Naomi has been teaching for nearly 50 years, is a pioneer in combining social justice work with the arts, and has recently, at age 69, become an avid ballroom dance competitor. Naomi is also the founder of the Studio 878 Trust, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Naomi and the Studio 878 Trust's philosophy is that a dance education should be accessible to all, and that mission is fulfilled in part by providing financial assistance for aspiring young dancers at every level.

Located at 878 Main Street in Chatham – Studio 878 is home to all of Adam in Chatham's dance classes. It is also a facility which houses various master classes, workshops, rehearsals and events. It is available for rental by outside arts organizations, teachers of dance and/or dance-related physical cultures.

Youth Scholarship Program

Thanks to the generous support of of our community, we have have a student body of 20+ young dancers, ages 6-18, in training with Adam Spencer. Their curriculum includes weekly private and group instruction with Adam and prepares them for nationally-sanctioned competitions and local performances. Their training includes not only dance technique but also – and perhaps more importantly – a chance to experience etiquette, supportive group dynamics, self-confidence, responsibility and a strong work ethic. 

Their academic teachers see the difference. Their families are so very proud of their accomplishments. And our community is enriched, because our children have the chance to dance.

Ballroom Dance Lessons

Whether ballroom dance is a past love to rekindle or something new to discover, each lesson will be a joy with your devoted instructor, Adam! 

Classes are offered to both individuals and couples, per session or in a series. Private lessons are designed to go at your own pace, focusing on the ballroom dance style(s) you want to explore. Group classes support students taking private lessons – plus it is fun to meet other people just like you learning to dance. Group classes are offered at no charge to students taking private lessons.
